Two flagship goals · monthly default · 100% pass-through

Fund the building, sustain the founder, keep the kitchen open.

Two living goals — chosen because the soup kitchen survives or dies on both. A failing 1855 sanctuary that houses the meal line, and a $0-salary founder who keeps it running. Choose one. Make it monthly. Watch the bar move.

Restore the church — $100,000

St. John’s building fund · Brick City Labor crew, Parsippany NJ

Newark’s 1855 stone-and-brick sanctuary keeps the soup kitchen running. Roof, plumbing, and electrical are failing. This goal hires Brick City Labor in Parsippany to maintain the building so the kitchen never closes its doors. Every dollar pays a skilled trades worker — receipts itemized to the public ledger.

Back the founder — $5,000

Brian Zalewski · 14 yrs principal engineer · $0 salary

Brian draws no salary from the mission. This fund covers personal runway so he can keep shipping (hotline, ledger, ops PWA, this site) full-time. 100% goes to him; itemized on the founder transparency page. Aim is a 6-month bridge — then back to free-cashflow from the for-profit side.

FAQ

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Megabyte Labs Mission is filing for 501(c)(3) status. Once the IRS determination letter lands (EIN pending), donations are tax-deductible retroactive to the determination date — and we’ll auto-reissue every receipt with the EIN. Until then, save your email receipt — it’s IRS-ready and includes the standard no-goods-or-services language.
What does my money actually buy?
On the kitchen side: $5 ≈ 1 meal + sides, $25 ≈ 8 meals, $100 ≈ one Saturday lunch line fed. On the building side: $50 buys replacement slate tiles, $250 covers an emergency plumbing fix, $1,000 books a day of Brick City Labor with materials. Every disbursement is on the public ledger within 72 hours of clearing.
What percentage goes to overhead?
Zero. Brian draws $0 salary. The board draws $0 fees. Square processing fees (~2.9% + $0.30) are absorbed by the founder personally — not deducted from your gift. Cloudflare + Resend + Square infrastructure cost lives on the for-profit side. 100% of your dollar reaches the program.
Can I give monthly?
Yes — monthly is the default on this page. Monthly gifts are the budget line we plan groceries and Brick City Labor invoices around. Cancel anytime via the donor portal link in your receipt email — no friction.
Can I donate by check or wire?
Yes. Mail to Megabyte Labs Mission, 24 Mulberry St, Newark NJ 07102. Memo line: which goal. Wire instructions: email hey@megabyte.space and we’ll send routing + account + memo within the hour.
What about stock, DAF, or crypto?
Stock: email for the broker DTC instructions — Schwab account on file. Donor-Advised Fund (Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard Charitable): grant to “Megabyte Labs Mission” with EIN-pending memo; we’ll backfill when IRS clears. Crypto: BTC + ETH addresses on request — we don’t auto-publish wallets to limit dust attacks.
Will my employer match?
Many do — 1:1 or 2:1. Once we have the IRS determination letter, your match portal will accept us instantly. In the meantime, save your receipt + use “Megabyte Labs Mission, EIN pending” in the match form; we’ll provide updated tax docs the moment IRS clears. See the match guide.
Can I give anonymously?
Yes — toggle “Give anonymously” in the form. Your name won’t appear on the donor wall or the public ledger. Internal payment records still tie to Square so we can refund if needed, but nothing donor-facing shows a name.
How do I cancel a monthly gift?
Reply to any receipt email, email hey@megabyte.space, or use the cancel link in the monthly receipt. We cancel within one business day, no questions asked. No retention dark patterns.
Where can I see how the money’s spent?
The public ledger lists every dollar in and every dollar out, itemized by vendor + invoice + date. Brick City Labor invoices are scanned and posted verbatim. Monthly close on the 1st.
