St. John’s Soup Kitchen figures

Our flagship partner is St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark’s Central Ward. Its impact numbers are the kitchen’s own, published on njsk.org.

40+ years feeding Newark

St. John’s Soup Kitchen states: “For over 40 years we have cared for those who have been without food or clothing.” The soup-kitchen ministry runs out of St. John’s Church (22 Mulberry St) — the church building dates to the 1820s–1850s, but the figure we publish is the kitchen’s service history, not the building’s age. 500+ meals served daily

St. John’s Soup Kitchen states: “In 2018 St. John’s prepared and served over 500 meals everyday” (breakfast + lunch, Tuesday–Saturday). Source: njsk.org/how-we-do-it.

Megabyte Labs Mission figures

We are pre-launch. No donations have been disbursed yet — our first cycle begins once the IRS 501(c)(3) determination clears. So we publish St. John’s impact (our partner’s real, decades-long work), not mission impact, until we have audited numbers of our own. See the live ledger on /transparency.

100% pass-through · $0 salary · $0 advertising

Mission policy, self-reported and verifiable: the founder personally covers operating costs and absorbs payment-processing fees; deposits route to a dedicated account used only to write checks to the kitchen. Reconciled monthly on /transparency; the Form 990 will be mirrored here the day it is filed.

Newark food-insecurity research

The data on our Newark food-insecurity primer (28% household food-insecurity rate, ~87,000 residents below the poverty line, USDA food deserts) is drawn from public datasets — U.S. Census ACS, USDA Food Access Research Atlas, and Feeding America — with the full reference list on that page.

Correction log

We log corrections in public rather than quietly editing.

2026-06-17 — impact-number correction

Earlier stat tiles read “198 years served,” “12,000 meals/yr,” and “2,451 people served in 2025.” On review against njsk.org these were inaccurate: “198 years” conflated the church building with the kitchen ministry; “12,000/yr” understated St. John’s daily volume; and “2,451 served in 2025” described impact we have not yet delivered (we are pre-launch). All were corrected to the cited figures above.
